Cuban Parliament President Stresses Support for Social Security Bill
SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Nov 15 (acn) Cuba’s Parliament President, Ricardo Alarcon, stressed the importance that Cuban workers understand the need for the new Social Security Law and support it. Speaking in a meeting with deputies of the provinces of Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos to discuss the social security bill, Alarcon pointed out that the law had to be put into effect as a result of development -which entails a decrease in the number of births; and after a rigorous analysis made by workers across the country. Also atending the meeting, Work and Social Security Minister Alfredo Morales said when the new law is put into practice, mechanisms to increase efficiency, discipline and organization at work will have to be implemented as well. The deputies' meeting was held after the consultation process recently concluded. The comments and suggestions made by workers in every work place of the island will be further evaluated by the National Assembly of the People’s Power (parliament).

Cuba Is a Model for Infant Health Care, Said Head of Regional Association
HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 15 (acn) Augusto Sola, president of the Ibero-American Society of Neonatology (SIBEN) said Cuba was a point of reference in infant healthcare, and eulogized the advances reported in neonatal treatment. It is a marvel that approximately 995 children out of every 1,000 born in this country celebrate their first year of life, said the expert who participated in a national conference of pediatrics that concluded recently in Havana. Sola wished for the cooperation between Cubans dedicated to the attention of the new born and SIBEN to increase, reported Granma newspaper. He said much can be learned from the experiences of the Cuban experts about preventive care. Sola, who had attended pediatric events in Cuba before, praised the selection of Cuba as the venue for the 7th SIBEN Congress to be held in 2010. Many delegates from the region, as well as from United States and Europe will participate, promoting exchanges between professionals from diverse areas.
